Sip All Day—Get Decay

If you like to sip your pop all day, be prepared to have this happen. This person saw us before it was too late and was able to change his habits. What you see is the result of removing all of this complex and extensive decay, then placing direct bonded resin. Many of these teeth have virtually their entire surface replaced in resin. Can you tell the resin from the tooth?

Some of the white spots were not decay, so they remain as they were. This is basic careful decay removal and direct resin restorative care done with a cosmetic flair. No ugly silver amalgam to show.

This is a short-term fix, for direct resin is not strong enough when almost the entire tooth is restored with it. Eventually in 5-15 years, full crowns may be needed to give many of these teeth greater strength. For now, he is ready for the orthodontist, free of decay and a nicer smile!

These images were scanned from older color prints from the pre-digital age.

Brown/white areas of decay

Sipping causes decay near the gum-line.

This decay wraps around the entire tooth. It is not easy to restore with "filling" material!
